Construction logistics for new high-tech complex:
focus on sustainability

ZEISS is building a modern, future-oriented and interconnected high-tech complex in Jena, Thuringia.

In the form of a consortium, BCL is responsible for the construction logistics planning and execution

In a consortium with Equipment & Technology Services Deutschland (ETS) of our parent company Implenia, we are responsible for the construction logistics planning and execution with access control, delivery traffic control and disposal logistics as well as the supply of construction water on this complex project. ETS is providing containers and building electricity.

The new building will have a gross floor area of approx. 130,000 m² and offer state-of-the-art working conditions for more than 2,000 employees. A sophisticated energy concept combines ecology and economy. For example, as much heat and cold as possible will be generated by geothermal energy in the future. ZEISS is aiming for DGNB gold certification for the project. Of course we are happy to support this - for example with our highly efficient waste disposal system.

The project is extremely challenging: the construction site is located in the middle of the city centre and is bordered on one side by railway tracks. Due to these cramped conditions, only little storage and construction site equipment space is available. Our work began in January 2022 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

More information about the project, including an animation showing what the completed building will look like, is available here. You can watch the live stream of the construction site here.
