These venues are important cultural institutions in Cologne. Over the years, the buildings had become in need of renovation and were no longer up to date, which is why the renovation began in 2012.
The aim of the renovation was to address building physics, acoustic, and structural weaknesses in the existing structure, as well as to eliminate infrastructural and safety deficiencies, combined with optimizing operational and artistic processes.
However, construction activities were halted temporarily since 2015, except for minor measures and stage technology. Only after the revision of the planning, the works resumed in mid-2021, with BCL appointed and utilized as the construction logistics provider.
