This multifunctional building will in future bring together four uses under one roof: the city library, the adult education centre (Volkshochschule), services offered by the collaboration of Bochum’s universities (UniverCity), and a 2,000m² market hall.
The construction project involves the structural conversion, upgrading, refurbishment, and revitalisation of the existing building. Additionally, an extension will be built in the courtyard area of the property.
During the planning phase, we identified all restrictions, influencing factors, and project-specific conditions – such as operational functional areas and above-ground and underground infrastructure – early on and incorporated them into a robust construction logistics plan, aligned with the building’s architectural design. Furthermore, we planned the crane locations and determined the required number of cranes as part of the logistics concept, taking into account the restricted site access.
Completion of construction is scheduled for 2027.
BCL was responsible for construction logistics planning (service phases 1 to 7 in accordance with AHO booklet 25).
