DBM - Department of Biomedicine Basel, Switzerland
A new laboratory building for the Department of Biomedicine is to be built on the University of Basel's Life Sciences Campus by 2031. Construction work began in September 2023 with the demolition of the basement floors (existing building) and the construction of the excavation pit. Completion is planned for 2029, with commissioning scheduled for 2030.
The project
The new building will unite around 70 of the department's research groups, which are currently spread across six locations, under one roof. This will bring together research, teaching and applied medicine at one location and combine them ideally.
On a floor area of around 35,000 m², spread over three basement floors, one ground floor and eight upper floors, rooms for laboratory, office and seminar use will be created. The building will provide space for 900 employees and 200 students.
BCL is responsible for the planning and execution of construction logistics.
