(Planning) Operation in Mainhattan:
light rail to the Europaviertel

On behalf of the city of Frankfurt and the Verkehrsgesellschaft Frankfurt am Main (VGF), SBEV is realising the extension of the U5 underground line to the Europaviertel in order to connect it to the city's public transport system.

Europaviertel in Frankfurt will be connected to the public transport system

Frankfurt am Main is one of the cities with the highest volume of commuters in Germany. The extension of the U5 underground line beyond the main station will connect a growing district to the local transport network, namely the Europaviertel. This is the largest inner-city residential and working quarter in the Main metropolis that is currently under construction.

The construction project comprises a 2.7 km long line with a total of four stations. The route leads from the underground station "Güterplatz" via a ramp to the surface and in the middle of the Europa-Allee on a grass track further west. The stations "Emser Brücke", "Europagarten" and "Wohnpark" will be built on the surface.

BCL was responsible for the construction logistics planning for this complex infrastructure project. The extensive know-how of the planning team was in demand here for various reasons. For example, the construction project is located in the middle of the city centre; the space conditions are therefore very tight and the traffic volume is high. A particular challenge on this project was that numerous different requirements had to be coordinated within the scope of the planning, as both above-ground and underground construction is being carried out here in parallel.

The BCL services started in 2020 and were completed in 2022; the client was Stadtbahn Entwicklung und Verkehrsinfrastrukturprojekte Frankfurt GmbH. Completion and commissioning of the route is expected at the end of 2025.
